MENTZE OTTENSTEIN Their sense of place and their love of traditional craftsmanship is anything but nostalgic and out of date. It’s inspiring to see someone using the knowledge that we have lost, to continue a beautiful tradition of making.

Pollet Pinet Architectes

Founded and led by Marion Pinet and Pierre Pollet, Pollet Pinet Architectes is an architectural practice based in Larnagol, France. Since 2015, they have approached architecture with a rare sensitivity, emphasizing empathy towards both urban and rural landscapes. Their work blends careful restoration, traditional craftsmanship, and subtle innovation, always grounded in a close relationship with local materials and resources.

Inventaire and the Architecture of Quercy

Through their Inventaire project, they explore and document the often-overlooked details of rural architecture - from hand-forged iron handles to traditional woodwork and stone construction. Acting as both an archive and a living reference, Inventaire preserves the essence of local craftsmanship while reinterpreting it for contemporary architectural use, reflecting Pollet Pinet’s commitment to understanding architecture as a cultural practice where the smallest details reveal the richness of history and human experience.

Their projects in the Quercy region - or in more distant places like Cotentin, Paris, Dordogne, Haute-Savoie, Tarn, and Provence - exemplify this approach. Working with skilled artisans, local materials, and traditional techniques, Pollet Pinet transform historic rural buildings into contemporary homes and studios, maintaining the authenticity of the original structures. Each project becomes a dialogue between past and present, revealing the stories of the landscape, its people, and its architectural heritage.

Whether restoring a farmhouse, documenting artisanal details, or developing Inventaire, Pollet Pinet’s work demonstrates patience, craft, and a profound respect for place - making their projects living testaments to the richness of regional architecture.
