A Philosophy of Dialogue and Immateriality

Sceners Gallery shares the dialogue and chemistry between creations and mediums, often started with a question or an idea. It is an open-ended harmony across the past, present, and future. Each creation possesses a unique narrative, reflecting the ingenuity, dedication, and passion of its creator - a pure path of a form or object, from conception to substance and later perception. The gallery admires old savoir-faire and cleverness, respectfully allied with contemporary knowledge. Focusing on collectible design masterpieces, while showcasing the works of both established and emerging artists, Sceners builds its identity on intention. Carefully curated by its founders, each piece holds a profound significance. Every aspect you perceive - sight, sound, touch, or sense - has been meticulously sought. This process led them to deeper questions, new sources of knowledge; nothing has been left to the unknown. To transmit the memories objects carry, the gallery invites visitors to feel and consider something invisible yet undeniably present. Sceners Gallery uses material as a medium to reveal immateriality.

A Historic Setting in Eastern Paris

Housed at 88 Boulevard de Ménilmontant in Paris, the gallery occupies a striking industrial space originally built as a toy factory by architects associated with Gustave Eiffel. Rather than smoothing over its past, the founders - collector David Atlan and artistic director Jonathan Haddad - embraced the building’s raw structure, patina and historical nuance. Its preserved concrete floors, exposed frameworks and double-height volumes shape both the atmosphere and the way objects resonate within it, turning the architecture itself into a participant in the gallery’s curatorial dialogue.

Design Across Eras

From its inception, Sceners has aimed to bridge historical craftsmanship with contemporary innovation. Its exhibitions juxtapose icons of 20th-century design with emerging designers whose works challenge traditional boundaries of material and form. This approach was evident from the inaugural exhibition “Then and Now,” which placed canonical figures like Serge Mouille or Charlotte Perriand in conversation with younger talents, revealing how ideas echo, transform and reappear across generations.

The gallery diverges from the conventional white-cube model by cultivating a sensory environment where materiality, texture, light and spatial rhythm stand on equal footing with the works themselves. The founders emphasize narrative and provenance, selecting each object for the intelligence and sensibility embedded in its making, as well as the questions it poses. With regularly evolving displays, the space becomes a living scenario - an ongoing exploration of how design reflects memory, imagination and cultural lineage.

A Distinct Voice in the Paris Design Landscape

In a city rich with design history, Sceners Gallery distinguishes itself as a site of convergence: past techniques meet contemporary experimentation, and industrial heritage frames objects of rare finesse. By allowing eras to overlap and materials to speak, the gallery creates an experience that is both cerebral and atmospheric. Here, design becomes more than form - it becomes a vessel for thought, emotion and presence.
